How to make your own herbal electrolyte drink

Your body needs minerals, not just fluids
You can drink glass after glass of water and still feel thirsty. That’s because the problem isn’t how much you’re drinking... it’s what kind.
Most people are walking around under-mineralized, not just dehydrated. When you drink plain water without minerals, it often passes right through you. There’s nothing there to help your body actually use it.
True hydration happens on a cellular level. And for that, your body needs minerals, also known as electrolytes, to pull water into your cells and keep it there.
Water + minerals = deep, cellular hydration.
So today, we’re making a simple, herbal electrolyte drink that does exactly that: hydrating your body in a way that actually nourishes it.
Why Herbs for Electrolytes?
Instead of relying on synthetic powders or sugary drinks, herbs offer a whole-spectrum source of minerals including trace minerals your body deeply recognizes and absorbs.
They don’t just hydrate you, they rebuild you!
This blend is gentle, deeply nourishing, and especially supportive if you’ve been feeling depleted, dry, fatigued, or just “not fully hydrated” no matter how much water you drink.
The Herbal Electrolyte Blend
Alfalfa
This is the base of the blend.
Alfalfa is incredibly rich in vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals: the kind that are often missing from modern diets. Those trace minerals play a subtle but important role in supporting the body, including nourishing the pituitary gland and helping to purify the blood.
I like to call it the superfood of minerals.
Nettle
Nettle is a powerhouse.
It’s loaded with iron, calcium, magnesium, and rich in iron bioavailable to our bodies. Nettle leaf also acts as a natural antihistamine and anti-inflammatory, making it the best herb for allergies and allergy season!
It strengthens while it hydrates.
Hibiscus
Hibiscus brings both function and flavor.
It’s high in antioxidants and vitamin C, which helps your body better absorb the minerals from the other herbs. It also adds a refreshing tartness that makes this blend feel more like a treat than a tonic.
Oatstraw
Oatstraw is deeply nourishing to the nervous system.
It’s known for its calming, restorative qualities, but it’s also incredibly mineral-rich and nutritive.
How to Make an herbal electrolyte drink
You’ll need:
1 tablespoon alfalfa
1 tablespoon nettle
1 tablespoon hibiscus
1 tablespoon oatstraw
4 cups water
Instructions:
1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat.
2. Add all of your herbs.
3. Cover, and allow it to steep for at least 20 minutes.
5. Strain and let it cool.
You can drink it warm or chilled throughout the day.
How to Use It
Sip this slowly instead of chugging water.
Let your body actually receive it.
You’ll probably notice:
Less frequent urination compared to plain water
A more sustained feeling of hydration
Increased calm and steadiness in your body
Because now, your body has what it needs to hold onto hydration, not just flush it out.
My Thoughts
Drinking gallons and gallons of water is only flushing out the very thing that your body requires to stay hydrated!
Your body isn’t just asking for more fluid, it’s asking for minerals.
This herbal electrolyte drink is a simple, grounded way to meet that need. No synthetic packets. No added sugars. Just plants doing what they’ve always done: restore, replenish, and bring the body back into balance.
Peace and Love, family!
